Saint Nicholas day
Today is Saint Nicholas day and old St. Nicholas seems to have visited my office during the early morning. Look what I just found (took me 2 h to work because of the terrific traffic jams caused by snow):
Well, it is all about sweet or small treats on St. Nicholas. For Kids especially: You put the sweets in a (now more symbolic)boot and a small toy or something during nighttime, while they are asleep and afterwards tell them St. Nicholas has visited. I for example put some christmas chocolate during the night in the notebook bag of my husband (laugh) - skipped on the shoe part. I also sneeked into offices and placed some chocolate. It is more for fun - just gestures, no big presents. A chocolate made Santa is the most important item: https://www.google.de/search?q=schokoladenweihnachtsm%C3%A4nner&hl=de&tbo=u&tbm=isch&source=univ&sa=X&ei=p2_BUMm5CIv6sga0wYCwBQ&sqi=2&ved=0CFYQsAQ&biw=1366&bih=626

I did some googling and found that the Christmas scene in Germany is quite different from that in the United States.
So, you get presents from St. Nicholas on this day, and get more presents from your parents and grandparents on Christmas Eve?
